Manabu, who once had big dreams of success in Tokyo, loses out on a swanking urban lifestyle and returns home at Hokkaido in midwinter. There his older brother Takeo manages a stable for the horserace. Their long overdue reunion exposes the personality differences of the brothers and the complexities of their ties. When Manabu puts his all into taking care of a horse that was unable to win the prize money and is scheduled to be slaughtered, he finds the new start in his life.
